How To Hand Wash Silk At Home

Your ZHE JIN mulberry silk scarf is an investment worth protecting. Unlike synthetic fabrics, 100% silk requires gentle handling — but with the right technique, washing at home is simple and safe. Follow these 7 steps to keep your scarf soft, lustrous, and beautiful for years to come.

01 — Check the Care Label

Before washing, always check the care label on your silk scarf for specific instructions. Some silk items may require dry cleaning only. ZHE JIN scarves are crafted from 100% brushed mulberry silk and can be gently hand washed.

02 — Hand Wash in Cold Water

Fill a clean sink or basin with cold water and add a small amount of silk-specific wash or mild detergent. Gently swirl the scarf in the water for a few minutes. Do not rub or scrub — silk fibers are delicate and can be damaged by friction.

03 — Rinse Thoroughly

Drain the soapy water and refill the basin with clean, cold water. Gently swirl the scarf to remove all soap residue. Repeat if necessary until the water runs clear.

04 — Press Out Excess Water

Never wring or twist silk — this can permanently damage the fibers and distort the jacquard weave. Instead, gently press the scarf between your palms, or roll it in a clean dry towel to absorb excess water.

05 — Iron on Low Heat (If Needed)

Silk can wrinkle easily. If needed, iron your scarf on the lowest heat setting while still slightly damp. Always place a thin cloth between the iron and the silk. Avoid steam, as high heat and moisture can damage silk fibers and affect the sheen.

06 — Dry Flat

Lay your scarf flat on a clean towel or drying rack and gently reshape it to its original dimensions. Avoid hanging silk to dry — the weight of the water can cause stretching or distortion, especially in a 71" scarf.

07 — Store Properly

Once fully dry, store your ZHE JIN scarf folded flat in a drawer or on a shelf — ideally in the silk dust bag it arrived in. Avoid hanging for extended periods, as this can cause the fabric to stretch over time.

💡 Pro Tip: Dark-colored silk may experience slight color release during the first wash — this is completely normal. Always wash dark silk separately to prevent color transfer.

With proper care, your ZHE JIN silk scarf will remain as beautiful as the day it arrived.
